Is kundalini the new spirit of revival ?

This was a comment left on one of our threads, its a mass email sent out by Andrew  Strom. I have also put a video up for a decent comparison. Is Strom right, are we as believers allowing a very false spiritual phenomenon to carry our youth away  ?

KUNDALINI WARNING – Urgent
-by Andrew Strom.

I just saw the video of Rick Joyner announcing that Todd Bentley
is back ministering every night at Morningstar in North Carolina
and now they have so-called “revival” manifestations eerily similar
to Lakeland. They also announced that they are streaming these
big meetings every night on their new TV channel – and they are
greatly promoting the whole thing.

Now I am a tongues-speaking Pentecostal myself – but can I ask
a simple question here please? What kind of “spirit” was it
operating in the Lakeland revival – when the leader and main focal-
point of the meetings (Todd Bentley) was having an adulterous
affair behind the scenes? Was it truly the “Holy” Spirit that was
anointing something so sensual and unholy? And now that Todd
divorced his wife and married his mistress – are we supposed to
welcome him back and this “anointing” with him? What is going
on here? Rick Joyner has been warned very specifically by high-
level ministries not to do what he is doing now – bringing Todd
Bentley back into the limelight. And yet it seems he does not
care. Apparently the “manifestations” are all that matter.

So what exactly are these ‘manifestations’ if they are seemingly
at home in such an unholy environment? Are they from God at
all? (I am talking here about the violent “jerking”, uncontrollable
laughter, bodily contortions, drunkenness, ‘portals’, strange “angel”
encounters, etc.) Why do we not see such an ‘anointing’ in the
Bible? Why aren’t Jesus or the apostles promoting these
manifestations if they really are true Revival? Why instead do we
see these things all the way through the New Age and Hinduism,
etc? Do we not realize that many false religions have their own
version of “laying on of hands” that results in these very types of
manifestations? This ’spirit’ is not in the Bible – but it is all the
way through Kundalini-type Hinduism! Don’t you think this should
alarm us?

WHAT is KUNDALINI?

If you search for Kundalini and Shakti on the Internet, you will find
that multitudes of people in the New Age and Eastern religions
still experience these powerful manifestations. Often this is with
the help of a Guru, who touches them on the forehead so that
they can experience a “Kundalini Awakening”.

As researcher Robert Walker wrote in 1995:
“The meetings which mystic Hindu gurus hold are called ‘Darshan’.
At these meetings devotees go forward to receive spiritual experience
from a touch by the open palm of the hand, often to the forehead,
by the guru in what is known as the Shakti Pat or divine touch.
The raising of the spiritual experience is called raising Kundalini…
After a period when the devotee has reached a certain spiritual
elevation they begin to shake, jerk, or hop or squirm uncontrollably,
sometimes breaking into uncontrolled animal noises or laughter
as they reach an ecstatic high. These manifestations are called
‘Kriyas’. Devotees sometimes roar like lions and show all kinds
of physical signs during this period. Often devotees move on to
higher states of spiritual consciousness and become inert
physically and appear to slip into an unconsciousness…”

And as the guru Shri Yogãnandji Mahãrãja wrote:
“When Your body begins trembling, hair stands on roots, you laugh
or begin to weep without your wishing, your tongue begins to utter
deformed sounds, you are filled with fear or see frightening visions…
the Kundalini Shakti has become active.”

In China there is a popular Kundalini-type movement called ‘Qigong’.
When a Chinese Qigong spiritual master spoke in the USA in
1991, the San Francisco Chronicle reported that many in the crowd
began to experience “spontaneous movements”. The master told
his audience, “Those who are sensitive might start having some
strong physical sensations – or start laughing or crying. Don’t worry.
This is quite normal.”

When you see videos of these “kriyas” or other Kundalini-type
manifestations, you would often swear that you are watching a
modern “Impartation”-type church meeting. (And I say this as
someone who believes strongly in the gifts of the Holy Spirit. I just
don’t believe in “alien” anointings infiltrating the Body of Christ!
There is a big difference between Kundalini and the real Holy Spirit).

Since 1993-4, I believe a foreign spirit has been allowed to invade
the church – first through Rodney Howard-Browne’s ministry – then
Toronto, then the Prophetic movement (which I was part of at the
time) and on into Lakeland and many other ministries and
movements. I urge people now to “test the spirits” just as we are
commanded to in Scripture. Do not let just anyone lay hands on
you. This is a powerful spirit and it has the backing of a lot of
big-name ministries. In fact, these men and women are the very
ones responsible for allowing it to spread right through the body
of Christ. And one day they will be answerable to God for doing so.

We are specifically warned in the Bible that the Last Days will be
a time of “seducing spirits,” false prophets, ‘lying signs and
wonders,’ and that we always need to watch for “angels of light”
masquerading as the real thing. Why does the modern church
not take these warnings seriously? Aren’t we living in the very
days that the Bible warns about?

Right now I need to do something that I have never done in such
a way before. I have never before published a list of ministries or
movements to watch out for. But this time I have to. This sickness
has gone on long enough. I urge you to cut yourself off from
the following ministries and their tainted “anointings” my friends.
Even though some of these people say “good things” at times, it
is simply not worth having any involvement with them due to the
tainted anointing that they endorse or minister in themselves. Here
is the list-

(1) Todd Bentley.
(2) Rodney Howard Browne – the so-called “Holy Ghost Bartender.”
(2) Rick Joyner or anyone connected with Morningstar Ministries.
(3) John Arnott & any connected with TACF (The “Toronto Blessing”).
(4) Peter Wagner of the ‘New Apostolic Reformation’ who claims
to be head of a worldwide network of ‘apostles’ – who publicly
endorsed Lakeland and will soon preach at Toronto TACF alongside
other “false anointing” advocates.
(5) Mike Bickle and IHOP Kansas City (-I lived nearby for over
two years – and know how much they are into all this stuff. Mike
Bickle promotes it in his book).
(6) Bob Jones – the Kansas City prophet whose ministry is utterly
tainted by it all.
(7) Patricia King and anyone else from ‘Extreme Prophetic.’
(8) John Crowder & anyone connected with “Sloshfest.”
(9) Bill Johnson of Bethel church, Redding – who says some good
things but publicly endorsed Lakeland and promotes the “false
anointing” very strongly behind the scenes.
(10) Heidi & Rolland Baker of IRIS Ministries – who do good work
amongst the poor in Mozambique – but who have also carried
and promoted this tainted anointing for years.
(11) Randy Clark, Wes & Stacey Campbell, and other key
figures from the “Toronto blessing.”
(12) The Elijah List – and almost anyone featured on it.

Of course there are a huge number of lesser-known preachers
and ministries who carry or endorse this Kundalini-type “anointing”
around the world. But I have concentrated here on the most
influential that I know of. It really is an enormous issue in the
church. I urge anyone who is a supporter of any of the above
ministries to really check them out thoroughly. If you find (as I have)
that they carry or endorse this false Kundalini spirit in the church,
then please stop supporting them in any way – and whatever you
do, don’t let them “lay hands” on you!

I am putting everything on the line to be “naming names” like this.
But I believe it is that serious. How on earth did we get to the point
where “kriyas” just like Hinduism are spreading through the church?

Please forward this email to everyone you know, blogs and boards,
etc. These people are trying to “relaunch” this whole thing right
now. Help us get this warning out. To see a video showing “kriyas”
and other Kundalini-type manifestations, please click on the

Thanks for the video. Startling similarities to what goes in in some of our “church” meetings…

  2. BereanOnTheWall

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen these things but watching that video made me cry 😦 Especially the one of Todd Bentley.

    Thanks for posting Jarrod.

  3. tried watching the video but it was disturbing my puppy. seriously.

    my puppy has discernment.

  4. Wendy C.

I watched the video and it made me cry too. Some sort of grief from the Holy Spirit.

  5. BereanOnTheWall

    Indeed, Wendy.

So how does one answer people who claim that the New Agers are experiencing a counterfeit, while believers in Christ are experiencing the “Real Thing” from the Holy Spirit?

This is the most common comeback I’ve heard from those caught up in these things.

  7. Very right view about kundalini indeed!!

Kundalini has nothing to do with religion, cast or profession of aspirant. It is common to all human beings and can be awakened by anyone!!

It feels very good when I see people becoming more and more aware about this subtle energy and the true purpose of yoga due to efforts of people like you!!

I have also taken a small initiative in this direction, I would be very grateful if you can visit my site and suggest me for further improvements:

    http://www.kundalini-and-chakra.com

Please do visit, its genuine!! 🙂

  8. BereanOnTheWall

I’ve gotta know something, Arvind, have you read the context of this site?

Nobody here supports such things. We are comparing modern day charismatic Christian practices to what we, as practicing Christians, believe is heresy and against what a Christian should be taking part in.

As soon as your website loaded and I saw “How can a Human be a Junior God?? ” I shut down my window.

I know how you can make an improvement. Set it all down at the feet of Jesus, repent of your sins, and follow Him your whole life. That’s the best improvement you’ll ever make.

Diane S. – The defense one hears that “New Agers are experiencing a counterfeit, while believers in Christ are experiencing the “Real Thing” from the Holy Spirit..” – in relation to spiritual manifestations –
Ask such a person if sodomy is a counterfeit of normal sexual relations as God intended or if it is an abnormal practice and misuse of a God given function.
Even though some claim homosexuality as legitimate even as a Christian, it is biblically unnatural, unlawful, unhealthy, unholy and forbidden by God – and so it is with Spiritual matters. Sodomy is not a counterfeit of something Godly, it is a degrading and rebellious deception , a MISUSE and ungodly in origin ..just like kundalini and eastern mystic spiritism is not a counterfeit of something Godly but a false and deceptive lie, fullfilled upon the flesh of those who have strayed into harms way.
Divination, necromancy, familiar spirits, soothsaying and mediums are forbidden – they are never called counterfeits, they are real with real ramifications upon those engaging in them – it is the joining together of two things God never intended to be joined together – The demonic and God’s creation in His own image: Man.

  10. David

Arvind – I know you may have experienced much in your dabblings into Kundalini – but I encourage you to try this. Ask the God who created all mankind, all things spiritual and natural , ask Him to destroy the false gods and lying spirits that wish you harm. Ask Him to reveal to you if Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven or true spiritual peace. Sincerely ask in humility if you desire life and truth. If you pray this thing – you will find your inner power of no avail and yet you will know the nature of Kundalini in its true state. God watches you and has given you a free gift – no need to work for it, a free gift of life and life in abundance through the Life of Jesus Christ, there is no other way Arvind. No other way. Find a christian and talk to them about God, may God’s redemption be revealed to you.

  11.  For a short period of time, my husband and I attended a church we had thought was teaching from scripture, until one of the leadership began passing out excerpts from one of Bill Johnson’s books. They had also began to have “exercises” which were focused on opening up oneself to the spirit realm…they had nothing to do with the Holy Spirit, or the nature and character of God. We promptly left, and I felt compelled to do some research into their source material, as many years ago I had numerous experiences with new-age practices, meditation, yoga, and suffered the consequences. Had I not been relentless to find truth in my life, what I had been involved with would have destroyed me. God heard the cry of my heart, and saved me out of all of it…He is the faithful One. I was nothing less than appalled when I discovered what Bill Johnson actually is involved with.

In Bill Johnson’s book, When Heaven Invades Earth, he states he was on a personal quest for increased power and anointing, and traveled to Toronto to receive impartation. Then he describes an experience he received in the middle of the night, (pg. 113) that was identical in every detail to what I had experienced years ago while practicing a yoga type meditation, and had what is called in Hinduism a “kundalini awakening.” (I had this experience numerous times over the course of a few years.) He states,
“I went from a dead sleep to being wide awake in a moment. Unexplainable power began to pulsate through my body, seemingly just shy of electrocution. It was as though I had been plugged into a wall socket with a thousand volts of electricity flowing through my body. My arms and legs shot out in silent explosions as if something was released through my hands and feet. The more I tried to stop it, the worse it got. I soon discovered that this was not a wrestling match I was going to win. I heard no voice, nor did I have any visions. This was simply the most overwhelming experience of my life. It was raw power…it was God. He came in response to a prayer I had been praying for months–God, I must have more of you at any cost!”
To say that I was appalled at what I read is an understatement. BJ is a pastor of a large church in CA, and travels giving seminars on School of the Supernatural. A master of twisted scripture, many in churches all over the US and England are exposed to this and more, as they are being taught to access the spirit realm, and learn manipulation. I am not exaggerating in any way when I say that this “electrifying” experience is demonic…it happens when one is accessing the fallen spirit forces. It has nothing to do with a Holy God! It is not related in any way to God’s true character and nature…God’s presence for the believer is one of Holiness, or it is not God. I am afraid one way that this experience is brought about is through lust…simply through a desire for power. The yoga teachers themselves describe how the lust for power can open up a meditaters’ mind and body to the kundalini force. Yet Bill Johnson is convinced that he was given a “new anointing” through this experience!
It is an experience of the soul, not the Spirit of the living God. It is the worship of oneself that is the very basis of humanism, opening the door to occultism, and every demonic, fleshly practice that Jesus came to redeem us from. Bill states that he “must passionately desire life-changing encounters with God, over and over again. I must cry out day and night for them…and be specific. I must be willing to travel to get what I need.”
The Bible I read says that God loves a contrite heart and humble spirit, and that does not mean one time some years ago. The presence of a Holy God will undo us, shatter our preconceived notions of what we think we “must have”…show us what we lack through our arrogant, self willed endeavors that elevate our position in life.
If we allow Him to take us through such a process, the grace and love He pours upon a broken heart is beyond description… it is only then that we can proclaim He is HOLY…He is separate, completely removed from any taint of our abilities to demand or manipulate. The true presence of God is never separate from His Holiness.
The flesh show that is prevalent in these kundalini infested programs are a sham, a counterfeit, a doorway to every lying and deceiving spirit.

God shut every door to the occult and when he delivered me out of that stuff. There was a literal seal put over my mind and spirit that is what every believer will have if they belong to Messiah.
I no longer had attacks from demonic spirits, or did astral travel, as the fallen realm is inhabited by lying spirits…and yes there are religious spirits there that work in and through those who embrace the false. (a great book on seals in the Bible, Sealed Unto His Coming, by CR Oliver…a great scholarly work on one thing…who the sealed are.)

Ephesians  1:13  In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

Ephesians 5:11  And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.

Did you know that the aim of the new-age adepts is to invoke this sort of electrifying-light-energy experience en masse to the populace…so they will experience the “oneness with the eternal,” that this is considered the height of the Luciferian initiation?

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.

  12. A short addendum to my former post regarding Bill Johnson’s book:
When I mentioned “spirit realm” in the exercises the church was engaging in, it is meant as the fallen spirit realm, as they were psychic in nature.
Bill Johnson’s “training” is “*mental adaptation through imagination” into the supernatural. It is exactly the same techniques that new-agers/occultist use to manipulate the spirit realm.
It has nothing to do with the Holy Spirit of God, as God is never manipulated.
Whatever is genuine from the spirit of God is never at odds with His character and nature, and when the word of God and the love of Jesus is placed in middle of all we do, the gifts of the spirit and the power of God is manifested rightly. Psalm 138:2… For You have magnified Your word above all Your name.

John 16:13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.
14 He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.
The church needs to wake up to the fraud that is being foisted upon them, and learn what His word says as to the true character and nature of God.

  13. ruthsongs

@anarrowway Thanks for that. Your first hand account is very important. I can’t help but think it’s people like you who really know what is encountered via New Age meditation etc will be very valuable to sounding the alarm.

  14. dominic

I would like some clarity please in response to the view that some Christians claim that the supernatural manifestations displyed by people involved in the New Age movement, is a counterfeit of the authentic manifstations of the Holy Spirit. Some Christians claim that all supernatural divine power and manifestations of that power originated with God? Before satan fell, I assume heaven was not contaminated with counterfiet power? I have experienced supernatural manifestations of the Holy Spirit, trembling, laughing, crying, baptised in the Spirit, spoken in Tongues, healings etc. God is divine. He is Spirit. The supernatural divine constitution of Gods substance, which is Spirit, is beyond my comprehension however, would you not agree that our physical bodies may react/respond to the supernatural spiritual presence of God in a variety of ways, or, do you think and believe that if/when people have a genuine encounter with God that they would/should not behave in any way so as to embarras themselves, or look strange to others, kin of keep a spiritual/religous, ‘stiff upper lip’ as the saying goes in the UK? This is a serious enquiry. I am open to know the truth. Thank you for your help.

    Dominic

Satan had already fallen by the time Adam and Eve were hanging out in the garden, so ‘counterfeit’ power’s been around as long as we have.

What’s needed is discernment in partnership with a good foundation on the Word of God – His Scriptures written by His Spirit. Galatians 5 outlines some important points about what fruits of the Spirit and acts of sinful nature look like. I take seriously such clear statements as in 5:21: “I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.” “living like this” includes drunkenness and discord, while fruits of the Spirit include gentleness and self control. I heard a preacher big in my church’s circle not too long ago say that the church was founded on drunkenness – the day of Pentecost. That is manipulation of Scriptures plain and simple. Peter clarifies to the people straight away that they are not drunk.

I believe there’s room for being ‘overwhelmed’ by the presence of God. I have teared up in His presence, at the realisation of His goodness and greatness. And we all react differently even in very similar situations. But every time there’s a writhing, an uncontrolled babble or series of movements I pray for His discernment.

To answer your question directly, whether or not people should behave so as to not embarrass themselves, that’s not the point. Embarrassment occurs when we break a social norm, and social norms are relative to communities. I have been embarrassed to proclaim the Gospel because it is not the social norm here in Australia. But that is not an indication that I should not do it. I simply believe that you won’t see God make people behave as animals (snakes, lions, bulls etc) because they are people. He won’t make you spiritually drunk that you lose self control which is a fruit of the Spirit. As for tongues, healings, laughing and crying etc. it depends on the context. I am a continuationist that holds tightly to the framework that Scripture laid down, for what can I trust if not the Word of God?

  16. Dominic,

“claim that the supernatural manifestations displyed by people involved in the New Age movement, is a counterfeit of the authentic manifstations of the Holy Spirit. ”

Interesting that I have heard charismatics claim further that they are restoring such manifestations and taking them back from the devil. So of if I say- “hey, the way you are prophesying is actually “reading” people – you are looking for reactions as you speak. Not much different from a carnival sideshow. They reply- “we are restoring this to the chuch.” Please.

Here’s the problem- if this (readings) was to be “restored” to the church, you would think there would be some scriptural basis for it. And there isn’t. What next, holy ghost palm reading? Phrenology?

And so the “counterfeit/restoration” doctrine has some serious flaws.

This does not speak to the issue of manifestations. I believe that we may indeed have physical reactions to the presence of God. I also believe that there are many other explanations – the flesh, and in some cases, a kundalini spirit. Those who chase after manifestations, the next spiritual high, at the expense of sound doctrine, open themselves up to all sorts of bad things.

Much of what we are seeing in the apostolic/prophetic today, feathers, gold, rubies, oil, stigmata, vibratring while prophesying (could someone interpet that please) seems to fall in the category of things they would like to take back from the devil. Why not take back pornography while you were at it. That should spice up the sunday evening service. Whoooo.

  17. observant

I am of the opinion that we are minimalizing what Kundalini awakening is when we attribute its effects to something “spiritual”.

When we say that this is due to a “spirit”, we are encouraging the response that the spirit manifesting in these so-called revivals is not an evil spirit, but that it is of God and the Holy Spirit, because that is Who is being worshipped there.

How long are we going to continue to give the devil credit for mental and physical illness? We are living in the 21st century now, after all.

There is a great deal of evidence pointing to the fact that this is a neurological syndrome, closely related to, if not of the same cause as migraine headaches with aura and temporal lobe epilepsy.

Two examples of self-proclaimed prophets from the past, who continue to have a great number of followers world-wide, also had documented head and/or spinal injuries and are speculated to have suffered from temporal lobe epilepsy. They are Ellen White and Edgar Cayce.

What else can this be due to? Habitual drug and alcohol abuse that eventually damages the brain.

For example, you might want to think about how a certain leader of the prophetic movement has the habit of continual rocking back and forth.

Did you know that this is both a sign of epilepsy and Kundalini awakening?

Or a couple of other prophets who have admitted they abused alcohol in the past.

And there are other leaders who claim to have visited Heaven, which is the same description given by those who practice astral travel and claim out of body experiences.

These are the same “prophets” who practice contemplative prayer, which is based on the same techniques used in transcendental meditation, and TM is being investigated for its role in triggering epilepsy.

The visions and ectasy are due to a sequence of neurons firing. The “kindling” effect of this is that once this is set off, it becomes increasingly easy to set off, more intense, and out of conscious control.

So please, to all who are participating in this, what god or spirit you are worshipping doesn’t matter.

What matters is that you are possibly setting yourself up for a lifetime of mental and physical problems due to neurological damage.

Yes, this is a “genuine” experience that could affect you for the rest of your life.

And for the teachers and evangelists who encourage this experience – shame on you! This is not a harmless practice, and if you believe in God at all, you should believe that you will one day give an account to Him as to why you caused mental, physical, and neurological damage to His children.

  18. Diane S.

I agree that the Church at large is WAY behind the times on the issue of mental illness, and even attributing certain phenomenon as Satanic, when it is actually a neurological/medical issue instead.

However, when people willingly open themselves up to the spirit realm, that is a whole different thing than being born with a pre-disposition. It may register neurologically on all the charts and data, but the cause can still be Satanic.
There are still haunted houses and possessed people.

  19. That was indeed an interesting article! It is my second experience with the Greycoats.

I’m not sure what to make of the article. The main point of the article seems to be “hindus and others have spiritual manifestations therefore spiritual manifestations of a similar kind in Christianity must be the hindu spirit.”

So the author may or may not be right about whether or not these “manifestations” are from God, but pointing out that other religions have them proves nothing. It is just as possible that the other religion’s manifestations are counterfeits of the real.

    My two cents worth… 🙂

  20. max

    Interesting… but a few thoughts.
first I don’t agree with what todd bentley was doing in Fla… but that doesn’t mean that many ppl who went there did not experience the presence of God. 1) If one is hungry and thirsty for God, Jesus promises he Shall be filled! 2) Jesus also stated that if you ask the Father for bread He would not give you a stone etc. 3) “My Word SHALL NOT return void!” it really doesn’t matter if the person speaking is saved or not! 4) If God can use a jack ass to speak to a prophet, He can use a jack ass in Lakeland. He can even use stones to cry out his Glory if He wants.
Another concern is the comparison. was there similarity? yes… does that mean it is the same? absolutely not! If I were to show a video of a newly wed on their wedding night, and what went on, and then compared it to a adulterous married man on a trip away from home with a prostitute, there would be a lot of similarities… does that mean that both are the same? again, absolutely not! one is blessed and one is not. If the apostles did not look like they were drunk with wine at 9 AM in the 2nd chapter of Acts why would Peter explain their actions? because they LOOKED alike. So as to the manifestations looking alike, there is no substance to the case/argument.
Looking at the fruit of such however, will determine its source. According to a spokeslady in the clip, rapes, suicide, beatings and violent behavor was statistically higher with the Hindu group. I am not aware of any such documentation following Bill Johnson in CA and Mike Bikle in MO. I do know personally people who have returned from IHOP in KC MO who are on fire for God, witnessing the gospel with boldness, which according to the scripture is fruit of the Holy Ghost! Last I checked Satan wasn’t in the ‘Winning Souls for the Kingdom of God” business. My concern then is not if these are of God, and if the manifestations are real or not, but what is the danger of saying that which is happening, and naming ministers who have led many into the kingdom, is of Satan? Jesus also was accused of the same. So while some of this manifestation may not be of God, but flesh, one should be careful of putting on the robes of a Judge, which is God’s alone to wear.
    Shalom,max

  21. desean jones

    Max,
I believe that Jesus was accused of having a demon. Do you then infer that he was acting in such a manner? I don’t. Just because Peter and the others were accused of ‘being drunk’ doesn’t mean that they were acting like that. Peter was defending themselves against the accusations.

  22. Diane S.

Such “jackass” people God judged, and in the New Testament, they were put out of the church. Period. The biblical behavioral standard for leaders in the church is high. Nowhere in the NT is there support for the view that it doesn’t matter how one lives privately as long as they can peform well in the pulpit. Such people are referred to as “enemies of the cross of Christ”.

Manifestations have never been the sign of spiritual maturity, or even of salvation. Spiritual maturity is Christlikeness in the way one lives their lives; how they treat other people – not giftedness.

Is Christ crucified the one being preached, which demands that we live a life of self-sacrifice and holiness, or are manifestations, visions, experiences, personal power and self-indulgence the gods being preached and sought after?

What is the fruit? A holy life, or the abililty to move in the supernatural? Hype or real substance?

  23. Diane S.

P.S. I think the heart of the issue with the Kundalini subject is whether or not Christians can be deceived by evil spirits, and whether or not every spirit manifested in Christian circles is of God.

We are warned over and over again in Scripture not to allow ourselves to be deceived, which means it IS possible to be deceived, and to test the spirits, which also means not every spirit manisfested is from God. Remember, demons disguise themselves as angels of light, and we are not immune to such influences.

I believe the ‘clean power/polluted power’ train of thought can be traced back to John White’s Book When the Spirit Comes With Power, which in one instance quotes a witch who came into a church and described her sense of the presence of God there as ‘a clean power,’ as opposed to the spiritual forces she had been dealing with. I don’t have a copy of this anymore, so I can’t verify via page number. This book was written as a defense of practices that were going on in Vineyard churches in the earlier days of the movement, before TACF and KCF, which became IHOP, gained recognition and acceptance. A review of the text on Greycoats would be very useful.

  25. You you should edit the page subject title Is kundalini the new spirit of revival ? The Grey Coats to more catching for your subject you write. I liked the blog post withal.

Jesus says the strait and narrow is the way that leads to life. It’s not a coincidence that the serpent’s tongue is forked, because he can only speak too far to the left or too far to the right. That’s what the Lord meant when he said “There is no truth in him… when he speaks a lie – he speaks of his own…”

In these days, it’s very easy to see that many ‘crowds’ of people are believing things that are too far to the left or right. On the one hand, there are the ‘starchier’ ‘dryer’ churches, who believe in a practical wisdom (get a good job, get married to someone nice, don’t commit any crimes, be a nice person…) – but they don’t believe in miracles, deliverance – or the power of Jesus’ name…

On the other hand – there are many crowds who LUST after seeing crazy, supernatural things happening, as though signs are a form of spiritualized entertainment. But they have a wide opening for Satan to come in with witchcraft and pseudo-miracles – because they don’t have any wisdom. That’s what Solomon meant when he said, “The naive believe every word, but the prudent man researches a matter…”

The one has some practical, obvious – common sense wisdom – and not nearly enough faith. The other has WIDE OPEN faith – and not nearly enough WISDOM. That’s what Jesus meant when he said that a wicked generation pursues a sign.

So hopefully it will make a lot more sense now, why the Lord says “How fortunate are you… when you’re excluded from men’s ‘company’ – for the Son of Man’s sake…” – that word ‘company’ means ‘crowd’ or ‘mob’. And that’s why it’s a blessing to get spit out of the practical, common sense, country-club church mob – because you have too much faith. And it’s also the kiss of life to get thrown out of the wacky, kundalini mob – because you have too much wisdom =)

This isn’t about churches – and it’s not about ‘movements’ either. It’s about the few that are closing in on the point where living faith and wisdom intersect. So if you’re not a part of those ‘mobs’ – and you’re on the outside for the right reason – you should rejoice – just like the Lord says to. You’re moving into the strait and narrow =)
